Visually impaired children have an important lesson to impart, namely that vision is only one of the channels through which it is possible to interact with the world. The purpose of this booklet is to help parents understand the peculiarities of neuropsychomotor development in the visually impaired child, and also to help them find ways to offer their own child appropriate and valuable support as he/she grows. Taking parents’ thoughts and concerns as our starting point, we have tried to provide practical insights, explaining what they can do, and how, in order to help their child exploit other sensory modalities in order to “see”, observe and understand the world. As shown by the illustrations and videos*, and as we ourselves know from parents’ feedback and children’s responses, reciprocal exchanges and sharing of experiences between the family and the rehabilitation team make it easier to address this complex journey and, day by day, discover all its potential.
